JOHN J. GERHARDT, M.D. - PRESIDENT
Dr. Gerhardt
received his doctoral degree in Medicine and Surgery at the Kari
Franzens University Medical School in Graz in 1948 and after further
residencies in General Surgery, Traumatology and Orthopedics was Board
certified in Orthopedics at the Orthopedic Hospital in Vienna, Austria
in 1956. He came to the USA the same year he took his board exam in
Chicago and worked 10 years in family practice in Illinois.
He took full residence in Physical
Medicine and Rehabilitation in Oregon and was Board certified in
PM&R in 1971. He held positions at the Kaiser Permanente Health
Care System, the VA Hospital, and Shriners Hospital for Children in
Portland, OR. He taught as Clinical Associate Professor in Orthopedics
and Rehabilitation (Voluntary Faculty) at OHSU Medical School until his
retirement in 1991.
During the past 50 years he has
researched, analyzed and applied various measurements and documentation
Systems of Range of motion of Joints, designed and improved measuring
instruments, invented the SFTR numerical documentation system in the
Neutral Zero Measuring Method with the objective to standardize
measurements globally. He published widely in the field of
Traumatology, Orthopaedics, Rehabilitation, Prosthetics, Orhotics and
Objective, Evidence Based Measurements.
In 1989 he founded the ISOMED Company
with the goal of furthering standardization, development or improvement
of measuring instruments and documentation systems. Dr. Gerhardt lives
in Portland, Oregon, carries an emeritus medical license and works with
Dr. Mark Fishel, who joined ISOMED, in writing, lecturing,
participating in developing and improving instruments and promoting
objective, evidence based measurements.
